Who are we?
We are a company founded by two senior Chilean geologists with over 25 years of experience, aiming to share their knowledge and passion with the community.
In addition to our technical expertise, our goal is to broaden our knowledge of rocks, minerals, and meteorites, as well as expand our global perspective. We have functioning firms in Chile, the US, and Spain.

GQCo USA LLC, based in the United States, and Rocks of the Universe S.L. in Spain.

Carolina Nuñez
Senior Geologist / Geólogo Senior
Carolina received her degree from the Universidad Católica del Norte. Her grandparents were modest artisanal miners, therefore she was raised in close proximity to the mines. She finished her secondary school at the “Escuela Técnico Profesional” of Copiapo, where she assisted one of her professors in the categorization of materials for the Mineralogical Museum of Copiapó, Chile. It was at this time that she developed a passion for geology and an enthusiasm for rocks and minerals.In her growth as a professional geologist, she became acquainted with the
largest copper mines in Chile and studied many types of deposits, acquiring knowledge in models of the various deposits, which she capitalized on by establishing her own consulting firm. She has used it for consultations in Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and the United States. In addition to its geological vein, Carolina generally crafts her own jewelry,which you will undoubtedly discover in our shop.

Carlos Urrutia
Senior Geologist / Geólogo Senior
Carlos received his degree from the Universidad Católica del Norte. Always on the go, while determining what to study, geology suited nicely with his drive to go further than his contemporaries. His professional progress has always been related to exploration, initially in Chile then, more recently, in Ecuador. All this path has been made related to CODELCO, a Chilean state-owned company, for its social vision and giving back to his country.
Walking through the desert at the beginning of the year 2000, he came across a strange rock of a weight and shape that defied the standards he knew... discovered a meteorite of a very scarce class; thanks to its discovery (Guanaco Meteorite), it was possible to generate a new class of meteorites, the IIG, of which there are currently only six specimens. Aside from geology, which is somewhat connected, he spends time stoning rocks and minerals to enhance their inherent beauty. More than one sample is shown in our museums, and some jewelry has a rock handled by his hands.
Geólogo titulado de la Universidad Católica del Norte. Brillante e inquieto, se decidió por la geología influenciado por su padre, quien trabajó arduamente y se formó por los sonidos y vapores de un ferrocarril en Antofagasta…se dio cuenta que la geología calzaba perfecto con sus ganas de conocer el mundo, sus orígenes y siempre diversificar y ampliar sus conocimientos. Su desarrollo profesional ha estado ligado siempre a la exploración, formado en el corazón de CODELCO, tanto por una visión social como de devolver la mano a su país, comenzó su recorrido a lo
largo de Chile, y estos últimos años fue la cara visible y responsable de fortalecer y elevar a los más altos escalones a los profesionales geólogos chilenos en el extranjero en 2 proyectos “iconos” desarrollados en Ecuador.
Fue elegido, por el universo.. en su arduo camino de explorador a principios del año 2000….se topa con una roca extraña, de un peso y forma fuera de lo normal…. ¡Un Hierro Meterítico lo eligió! Después de ser analizado, resultó ser de una clase muy escasa, gracias a su hallazgo (Meteorito Guanaco) se pudo definir una nueva clase de meteoritos, la lIG, de la cual actualmente solo existen 6 especímenes en el mundo.
Aparte de la geología, Carlos es un arquitecto y artesano innato, dedica parte de su tiempo a la lapidación de rocas y minerales realzar y dejar registro de su belleza natural... Es capaz de concretar diseños albergados en la imaginación por mucho tiempo….seguramente más de alguna muestra exhibida en nuestros museos, o en alguna joya, encontrarás una roca trabajada por sus manos.
